Tour the Rose Gardens in Farmers Branch

Gussie Rose Garden

Located at 2610 Valley View in Gussie Field Watterworth Park, this garden is home to almost 400 different roses. The collection includes a great diversity of classes, color, origin and time of introduction. One thing is almost for sure – you’ll find a new favorite each visit.

The Earth-Kind management program which embraces environmentally friendly horticultural practices is utilized throughout much of the garden. Partnering with Texas A&M AgrIlife Extension, the garden has been the center of the national Earth-Kind rose research project. Beautiful roses are being grown without fertilizer, harsh chemicals and minimal irrigation.

David Austin Roses has sponsored a major trial of both shrub and climbing roses. These beautiful roses are being trialed under spray and no spray conditions. The first year was 2014 and many roses promise to be strong performers in our area.

The American Rose Trials for Sustainability inaugural year was 2014. This trial is testing for tough, hardy roses that require minimal care in the landscape.

In addition to the important trials, there are roses of all colors, forms and classes. Some are readily available in the marketplace and others are harder to find.
