Stand and salute those who have served in the United States Armed Forces at the Farmers Branch Veterans Day Celebration on Friday, November 9, 2018 at The Branch Connection. The program begins at 10:30 a.m. and includes a patriotic ceremony includes the posting of the colors. Admission to the program and an All-American hot dog lunch is free for the whole family, and early arrival to this popular event is strongly encouraged.
Listen to world traveling Victory Belles direct from the World War II Museum in New Orleans. This vocal trio is making their return to Farmers Branch, with their music of the 1940s that brought hope and joy to the GIs, and other gems of the WWII era. Their voices pay tribute to the Veterans, their families, and all who serve our country.
In further recognition of the Veterans Day service, the Random Acts of Kindness (RAK) group is sponsoring Sweats for Vets. RAK is a special interest group at The Branch Connection collecting sweatshirts, pants, socks, gloves and hats for men and women at the homeless shelter. Sweats for Vets donations may be delivered to The Branch Connection until 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2018.
This year, November 11 is the Centennial of Armistice Day, marking the end of World War I. Armistice Day was renamed to Veterans Day in 1954. In conjunction with Veterans Day and this 100 year anniversary, The Branch Connection has asked Dr. Richard McCaslin, from the University of North Texas to present the series, “Conversations in Neglected History.” Dr. McCaslin is an award-winning author, also nominated for a Pulitzer Prize, and is scheduled to speak on at 9:30 a.m. on November 16, 2018 on World War I in Texas.

The Branch Connection is closed on Friday, November 9 until 2:00 p.m. for the Veterans Day Celebration. Formerly known as the Senior Center, The Branch Connection is located at 14055 Dennis Lane in Farmers Branch, in the southwest corner of Dennis Lane and Valwood Parkway. The multi-purpose room is closed Thursday, November 8, 2018 in preparation for the Veterans Day Celebration, but the rest of the facility remains open.
