“Up In The Air At Moxie Mischief Aerial Arts” discovered and written by guest contributor Maridee Dietzel.
Are you already bored with your annual resolution to hit the gym, run that treadmill, and get in better shape this year? Wrap your body around a new experience here in Farmers Branch. Moxie Mischief Aerial Arts is the premiere aerial arts studio in the Dallas/Fort Worth area!
Picture the trapeze artists at the circus. Now picture yourself as one of those artists. No, seriously. Moxie Mischief is all about having fun in flight while keeping safety at the forefront. They offer classes for all levels in Aerial Silks (the long pieces of fabric suspended from the ceiling that you’ve seen people climb and do acrobatics), Lyra Hoop (think of a metal hula hoop suspended from the ceiling), Trapeze (a swing suspended from the ceiling), and many others.
But it’s more than just having fun.
“I dropped like 30 or 35 pounds,” said Dahlia Lee, who was featured in WFAA’s Wellness Wednesday segment.
Lee, like most beginners, had no prior experience but has now been coming to classes for four years. “I needed something interesting that I could stick with that I wasn’t going to be like, ‘Oh, I have to go to the gym today.’ I wake up and I go, ‘Oh, I get to learn something new today!’”
You don’t need to have lots of upper body strength. You don’t need to be tall, or short, or thin, or muscular. You don’t even need to be brave! Honestly, you just need to be ready to try something new and have fun.
Moxie’s instructors aren’t there to make you do something you don’t want to do, so if you feel uncomfortable with an exercise, you can just say so. They may encourage you to step outside of your comfort zone, but they’re happy to modify your training to fit your comfort level. You won’t start out high in the air—you’ll begin close to the ground and gradually work your way higher.
The best part is that classes aren’t expensive! A group class is just $25. You can join the fun and see if you like it. Once you’ve discovered the thrill, you can purchase additional classes at a discount. If you’re feeling shy, you can book a private class. Alternatively, instructors also offer parties and team building sessions.
Beginner classes are offered every day, but you do need to register because space is limited.
Summer camps are available for kids ages 6–15—your kids can learn a new skill and have a great time doing it!
